Our Roman Catholic Church

St. Michael the Archangel parish was established in 1956 in Georgetown, Delaware. In 1986, a mission church, Mary Mother of Peace, became part of the parish. The website is both churches' presence on the world-wide-web. Located in the middle of Sussex County, the lower "slower" county of Delaware. St. Michael the Archangel is located in the county seat of Georgetown while the Millsboro church serves the Indian River communities. As a Roman Catholic community, we currently have over 1,700 families with over 4100 members.

Our parish is very diverse! In Georgetown, St. Michael's church has over 300 English-speaking families and 400 Spanish-speaking families; 2100 members. At Mary Mother of Peace, families from Millsboro, Oak Orchard, Long Neck and Lewes, over 1000 families; over 2100 members range from permanent to part-time residents.

The parish history began in 1890 when the Pastor of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Dover was given responsibility to celebrate Mass in Milford but actual Mass was not celebrated in Georgetown until 1941 - 1947 when WWII soldiers were training in the town's Armory.

Our Catholic faith parish has evolved into a Spiritual home for its enthusiastic, generous, supportive and diverse members.

We hope that this website answers questions about the community and the Catholic faith. If we can be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact us. If you are not a parishioner or someone who attends our churches, we sincerely hope to welcome you soon during a visit to the mid Sussex County area.

May God bless you with his abundant love!
